About
Why Slate exists
Slate started with a frustration you probably share: it’s Saturday morning, you know something’s on somewhere, and you can’t find it.
The announcement was on social media three weeks ago — you didn’t see it. The big “what’s on” sites list every ticketed show and paid promotion, but not the market down the road. And finding out means digging through pages overloaded with ads, images, pop-ups and other people’s agendas. They’ve become worse than recipe sites — a thousand words of scroll before the thing you came for.
So I built the thing I wanted: one page, everything that’s on this weekend, nothing else.
What’s on the slate
Markets, festivals, food events, kids stuff, community days — things you can just turn up to. The test for every listing: could you decide at 9am and be there by 10?
What you won’t find:
- Reserved-seat anything. Concerts, theatre, footy matches — they’re well served everywhere else. This is not for that.
- Paid placements. Nothing here is listed because someone paid. Nothing ever will be.
- Places pretending to be events. A park is always open; the slate lists what’s happening, at a stated time, this weekend.
- Ads. None.
How it stays true
Every listing shows when it was last checked, and everything is re-checked before every weekend. Times change and weather cancels things — if you spot something wrong, the “Something wrong?” link on any listing takes one tap and goes straight to us. Two reports and the listing is flagged publicly while we check.
Who makes it
Slate is made by On The Slate, Adelaide, South Australia — where the first slate started.
